5 Fun Holiday facts from The Christmas Guy: 2021 Edition
By Candace Huntly
It wouldn’t be the holiday season without talking about Ward Anderson. Media personality, comedian, author, he wears many creative hats. However, most recently he has added award-winning animator, producer, and screenwriter to his long list of talents. Why should we talk about Ward during the holiday season? He’s the Christmas Guy! I have never met anyone who knows so much about Christmas… He's got a one man A Christmas Carol radio play, animated Matt Dusk's Cool Yule, and plenty of Christmas-related projects in the works!
So, in case you want to pull out some fun facts this weekend as you gather (safely) with friends and family, here are a few of my fave fun facts that Ward has shared about the magical holiday.
Fun Holiday Fact #1: Paul McCartney makes an estimated $400,000 per year from the royalties generated by "Wonderful Christmastime". How many times do you think you heard this song throughout December?
Fun Holiday Fact #2: Here’s one for those of you who want to create a “healthy” debate around the dinner table. The term "Happy Holidays" is actually older than the term "Merry Christmas" … 😬
Fun Holiday Fact#3: In my last blog I mentioned that I have moved into exclusively watching Christmas movies in my limited TV time for 2021. Well, in 1989, there were only TWO Christmas movies released: “Christmas Vacation,” and “prancer”. Interestingly, Johnny Galecki from Big Bang Theory is in both. That is a stark contrast to the 146 and counting that Entertainment Weekly says are being released in 2021… I better get watching…
Fun Holiday Fact #4: Santa's North Pole address is technically in Canada. He has a Canadian postal code: H0H 0H0. I feel like with the red and white and celebration of all things winter we should have just expected this.
Fun Holiday Fact #5: While it was never kept secret, some time in 2018, the internet exploded when it became widely known that the head toy maker and Elf in the movie “Elf”, is played by Peter Billingsley, who was Ralphie in “A Christmas Story.” He did it uncredited, as a cameo.
Here's Ward's appearance on Your Morning last year!
