5 things you didn’t know about your favourite holiday songs
By Candace Huntly
While Ward Anderson is a talented writer, producer, comedian, and animator, he is also known as The Christmas Guy. It just wouldn’t make sense for us to NOT show some love to this client on Christmas Eve
.He knows pretty much everything you could ever think of about Christmas – and even more. Here are five of my favourite fun Christmas facts about some holiday favourites that you have undoubtedly been listening to lately.
JINGLE BELLS
You may have changed the words to this song as a kid, but did you know the original was actually not a Christmas song at all? Jingle Bells is actually a thanksgiving song! So, when you are listening tomorrow to get in the holiday spirit, just know that you and the rest of the world are a few weeks late.
WHITE CHRISTMAS
This is one of my all-time favourites. As soon as the weather turns colder I am either listening to it regularly or singing it (just ask Trevor). Apparently a lot of people like it because not only is White Christmas the best-selling Christmas song of all time, but it is actually the best selling song of all time. PERIOD. You would think more people actually liked snow…
BABY IT’S COLD OUTSIDE
Before it became a discussion of controversy (don’t even get me started), Baby It’s Cold Outside was a staple on most Christmas albums that artists recorded. Funny thing is, it’s not even a Christmas song. Never once does it mention Christmas!
THE CHRISTMAS SONG
Another holiday favourite, The Christmas Song (Chestnuts roasting on an open fire…) was actually written in July when the weather was extremely hot. Wells and Torme wanted to cool down by thinking of colder weather.
COOL YULE
Ward Anderson launched an animation studio at the height of the pandemic after teaching himself how to do animation. He has collaborated with Canadian crooner Matt Dusk on a few animated music videos since launching. Their latest collaboration? Matt’s cover of Cool Yule!
Happy Holidays!
