Tips for marketing a product
We recently shared tips for businesses who are marketing a service and now we’re moving on to share some tips for marketing a product.
Let’s jump right in!
Understand your product(s) features and benefits
If you’re going to market a product, one of the most important things you need to do is understand the features and benefits of your product. What’s the difference? Features will be what your product does, while the benefits describe why those features are important and how customers benefit from it.
Get on social media
This tip was mentioned in our previous blog, but it’s a great tip for marketing products as well. There are so many ways that you can use social media to market your products. For example, you can share images and videos that highlight your product(s) such as tutorials, order packing, how-tos, and more. Social media also allows you to not only reach your current audience but also people that haven’t discovered you yet.
There have been so many products that went “viral” on social media (i.e. TikTok), leading them to become sought after and to even sell out quickly.
Share User Generated Content
User Generated Content (UGC) is content created by your audience, not by you. It could be images, videos, testimonials, or some other form of content, which is then shared on online platforms like Instagram or TikTok. According to Stackla, 79% of consumers say that UGC highly impacts their purchasing decisions. UGC content works because it feels more authentic to consumers than content created by brands and therefore more trustworthy.

Work with influencers
Like User Generated Content, working with influencers is another great way to market a product. Unlike celebrities or brands themselves, influencers can feel a lot more authentic and relatable to consumers and are more likely to be seen as trustworthy. Influencers can introduce your products to a wider audience and can inspire others to purchase the products they love.
If you’re considering working with influencers, it’s important to select the right people to work with and to build a relationship with them. We’ve shared many tips and guides for working with influencers, here are a few to start with:

Try email marketing or SMS marketing
Whether you’re launching a new product or want to highlight an existing one, email or SMS marketing (think text messages) can be a great way to spotlight your products. Many brands use email or SMS marketing to announce new product launches, offer discounts, share upcoming promotions, and more.
Have a giveaway/contest
Having some sort of giveaway or contest is a great way to drum up some excitement and interest for your product(s) and there are so many ways to do this. If you live in a big city, like Toronto, you’ve probably seen brand ambassadors standing out on busy streets giving away free products (i.e. like snacks, beverages, and beauty products). Or maybe you’ve received free products to try in the mail (I can’t count how many cat treat samples I’ve received in the mail). But you can go another route too…
The easiest would probably be to host a classic contest or giveaway, on a platform like Instagram, where your audience has the opportunity to win product(s) from your brand.
