Surprising holiday shopping stats to consider
It’s officially September and you know what that means… The holiday season is right around the corner. Whether you like it or not, it’s time to take a look at your holiday marketing strategy and to gear up for the holidays.
To help you make this season a little more merry and holly jolly, we’ve compiled a list of surprising holiday shopping statistics to consider when planning your marketing, keep reading!
50% of consumers expect to start their holiday shopping before November
We said it above, we’ve said it before, and we’ll say it a million times, it’s not too early to plan your holiday marketing! In fact, according to one survey 50% of consumers surveyed expect to start their holiday shopping before November (that’s about a month and a half away). Furthermore, according to Google as of mid-October, holiday shoppers globally had on average 21% of their holiday shopping complete. That means a lot of shoppers have probably already started shopping for gifts or they will soon!
62% of shoppers said they were more likely to continue buying from a brand if they received some sort of reward
We’ve mentioned the importance of loyalty programs before and this statistic helps illustrate the importance of rewarding your customers. You can create a loyalty program that offers a discount, a free gift, or something else. There are other options as well! You can offer your customers a discount code (i.e. via an email newsletter), a gift with purchase, or a referral code that rewards them and those they share the code with.
87% of shoppers surveyed feel that it’s important to save money
Okay, okay, so given the current economic climate, this probably isn’t that surprising BUT it’s important, so I thought it was important to mention it. Let’s face it, consumers often want to save money and at a time when many struggle to buy groceries or pay rent, it’s more important than ever. You may want to take this into consideration this holiday season, because although gifts are nice, they may not be on the top of everyone’s shopping list this year. What you can do is create a special holiday discount code, offer discounted sets, and more. Find a way to appeal to those who want to save on gifts this upcoming holiday season (without underselling yourself)!
As of 2021, 60% of consumers have reported using a BNPL service
As of 2021, more and more consumers are using Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) services such as Klarna or Afterpay. Being able to pay for items later or split up a payment, may be more appealing to many consumers this holiday season. You may want to consider having a BNPL option on your online store, if you have one.
In 2022, 87% of holiday shoppers said they used Google to help with their shopping
Have you ever tried to Google your brand, products, or specialty? How high up do you appear on Google? Are you easily discoverable? These are some questions you should be asking yourself ahead of the holiday season, especially when so many consumers research their purchases and shop online.
We hope those statistics help guide you with your holiday marketing, but if you need some help one on one, book a free 20 minute consultation and let’s discuss how we may be able to help you!
