Setting social media goals for 2025
A big part of ringing in the new year is thinking about your resolutions and goals for the year ahead, from personal ones to professional ones.
If you’re using social media for business, you should be thinking about your social media goals for the year, but what does setting goals for social media look like? Let’s get into it!
If you’re thinking ahead and planning for 2025, we suggest checking out our previous blog, Setting yourself up for success in 2025 as well. In the previous blog, we talked about how goals are essential because without them, your strategy can fall flat and that it's a good idea to start by setting SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time bound).
If you’ve had social media goals in the past, one of the first steps you can take is to review those previous goals. Here are a few things to consider:
Did you meet all of your goals?
If you did, what helped you reach those goals?
If you didn’t, think about why you may not have achieved them, i.e, were they too lofty? And how you may be able to refine those goals and your approach moving forward.
Metrics
Metrics are an important aspect of goal setting. After all, how are you going to know if you’re successful and meeting your goals if you aren’t tracking your progress in some way?
We suggest creating a document, like a Google sheet, to track your monthly progress. For example, you can note your followers, views, likes, comments, shares, saves, and more. While it’s helpful to track all of these metrics, you can tailor your tracking document to fit those most important to you and your goals.
Set short term and long term goals
When thinking about social media, it’s a good idea to have both short and long term goals. For example, a short term goal may be to drive traffic to your website during the holiday season or a product launch, while a long term goal may be building brand awareness. Thinking about these types of goals will help you figure out and refine what metrics you track, what your strategy is, your content, and more.
As mentioned in the previous blog, when creating goals, also think about the milestones you want to achieve on your way to each goal, these will help you track your progress, adapt if needed, and celebrate the small wins.
Put in the effort
If you want to reach a goal, you need to put in the effort, period. For example, if you want to increase your engagement and build a stronger online community, you’re going to need to take the time to actually be social - like and comment on other user’s posts, reply to comments and DM’s, and more.
Consider your over all business goals
Keep in mind that your social media presence should help support your business through boosting awareness, creating community, etc. which means that your social media goals and business goals should align.
Create content that supports your goals
While you should be creating content that resonates with your target audience and highlights your brand, you should also consider whether your content supports your goals. For example, if you want more engagement on Instagram Stories, create content like polls, questions, and quizzes, to encourage engagement.
Social media goals to get you started
So what are some examples of social media goals? Here are some ideas to help you get started:
Grow TikTok followers organically by 15% in 3 months.
Increase engagement by 30% in 6 months.
Aside from your business’ social media goals, it’s also a good idea to have social media goals for yourself as well. Here are some examples:
Spend 30 minutes a day on engagement
Post x amount of times per week
These will help you reach your overarching goals!
We hope you reach all your goals next year!
