6 tips for crafting the perfect holiday marketing message

We’ve been talking all things holiday marketing the past couple of weeks. It does get busy, and your customers will be looking for the perfect gifts and experiences. The reality is, unless you have the right message, your holiday campaigns could fall flat, and they won’t have the lasting impact you hoped. Your message needs to go beyond holiday cheer if you want to have a successful holiday campaign.

Here are some tips to help you create a winning holiday marketing message:

1. Get into the spirit of the season

While it shouldn’t be the ONLY thing you focus on in your message, remember that the holidays are a time for gathering with loved ones, giving, and overall joy. Your message should genuinely convey these values. Don’t force it but try to include things like giving back to the community, spending time with family, and spreading holiday cheer. Tap into emotions to connect on a deeper and more authentic level.

2. Don’t forget to provide value

You’re competing with a lot of other brands during the holiday season, so it’s more important than even to provide value with your communications during the holiday season. Think about what your customers need – last minute gifts, the perfect gift for people who are hard to buy for, convenience, a memorable experience. Show how your products and services provide value and solutions during the holiday season.

3. Incorporate limited time offers

Urgency is a powerful motivator at any time of the year, but during the holidays especially. Limited time offers, exclusive holiday discounts, and “last chance” promotions can inspire customers to act quickly.

4. Leverage nostalgia

I LOVE nostalgia in marketing. There is something special about tapping into the emotions surrounding special memories. The holidays are steeped in tradition, and people love reliving the magic of holidays past. Nostalgic elements in your marketing message can create a sense of familiarity and comfort that resonates with your audience. Nostalgia always builds a stronger connection with your audience.

5. Make it mobile-friendly

We live in a multi-tasking world. Shoppers will browse their phones before going into a store, or just simply purchase from their phone. Make sure however you are communicating—whether it's email, social media ads, or your website—are mobile-friendly. Make it easy for customers to browse products, access offers, and make purchases on their phones.

6. Have a strong call to action

A great marketing message should always end with a clear and compelling call to action. Whether you want your audience to shop now, sign up for a special holiday offer, or share your campaign on social media, make sure your CTA is direct and motivating. Keep your CTA festive and in line with the holiday spirit, like “Spread the joy—shop our Christmas collection today!” or “Give the gift of [Your Product] this holiday season!”

Crafting the perfect holiday marketing message is about more than just festive imagery and holiday greetings. It’s about connecting with your audience on an emotional level, providing value, and creating memorable experiences. How are you connecting with your audience over the holidays?
